On Sunday, June, 15th, 1975, four terrorists came across the border from Lebanon into Kfar Yuval and took over the Yosef-Chai family’s house. They killed the soldier Nechemia Yosef-Chai, aged 18, took the other family members hostage, and started negotiating with local security forces.
Finally IDF forces broke in to release the hostages. Yakov Mordechai, aged 25 and husband of one of the hostages, was killed. Some hostages were wounded including Yaakov’s wife Simcha and her son Asaf. Asaf survived his injuries but Simcha died the next day.
Yakov Mordechai was decorated for his bravery in this action.
