On Sunday January 22nd 1995 at 9:30 Am Shabtai Machpud drove his truck in Beit leed junction just as a suicide bomber exploded in a station packed with soldiers waiting for their ride. Shabtai who was an experienced medic stopped his truck and ran to help the wounded. A second suicide bomber who exploded him self minutes later killed Shabtai.

 

In the two explosions 22 people were killed, 21 soldiers and one civilian.
Shabtai was 36 years at his time of death. He was survived by his wife and a son, parents a brother and four sisters.
Ten months after Shabtai's death he received a police bravery decoration for his help to the wounded.

The families built at first a Spontaneous commemoration site at the place of attack, after few years the commemoration site few hundred meters east of the attack place was built. this is the site that exist today.
