On Wednesday morning, April 13th 1948, a large convoy left the center of Jerusalem on its way to the surrounded Mount Scopus. The mountain was surrounded by Arab forces and the access to it was only via convoys coordinated with the British.
The convoy included 9 armored vehicles, two ambulances, two busses and 3 trucks. There were 120 people in the convoy, among which were medical staff of the Hadassah hospital, workers of the Hebrew University, Hagannah soldiers and visitors.
After receiving British approval, the convoy entered the Arab area. At 9:40 am at a curve in the road a large roadside bomb exploded and the first armed vehicle stopped, forcing the whole convoy to stop. Heavy fire was opened on the convoy. Five vehicles managed to turn around and return to the Jewish-controlled area. Four were left unable to move, with 90 people inside.
A few attempts were made by the British and by the Hagannah forces to get to the vehicles without success. Around 2 pm the Arabs set fire to the two busses causing dozens casualties. The British managed finally managed to force the Arabs to cease fire at around 4:00 pm, and rescued the survivors. 77 people were killed, 67 soldiers and 10 civilians.

Many of those killed were brought to a mass grave in the Sanhedria neighborhood in Jerusalem.
