On Tuesday evening, October 2nd, 2001, a group of terrorists infiltrated into Elai Sinai Settlement in the north part of the Gaza strip. After cutting the fence, dressed as IDF soldiers, green bands to their heads Kalashnikov rifles in their hands and armed with grenades they started shooting everything in sight.
The terrorists shot at the houses and at the cars, they kept moving on the southern road where they met Liron Harpaz, 19 years old and her boy friend Asaf Yitzhaki, 20 years old who came to visit her for the holiday. Asaf was hit first and died. Liron tried to escape but was shot and died as well.
fifteen people were wounded.
Liron's father, Arik, built at the place were she died a memorial for the two young people.
The monument was taken with everything else when the disengagement took place at the end of 2005.

After the disengagement from Gaza and after Harpaz family was forced to leave their house in Elei Sinai, the monument was transferred to near Liron’s Aunt house in Moshav Ein Habesor.
There the yearly memorial takes place at October 2nd.
With the settlement of the family and all Elei Sinai people in Kibbutz Palmachim the monument will be transferred to a central location in the Kibbutz and will stay there forever.
