On October 16th, 2005, many young people stood in the Gush Ezion junction waiting for a ride home. in the afternoon a couple of terrorists in a van arrived and shot at the waiting crowd.
Three people were killed. Amongst them Mata Rosenfeld Adler, 21 years old.
To describe the commemoration site here's a section of a letter written by Matat's parents who built the view point:
Matat viewpoint watches the Maccabim road going up from Modeen settlements to Jerusalem and views the whole beach area of Israel, from Gaza in the south to Hadera in the North.
The view point was built on the same rocks where Matat loved to play and where she grew up, on the rocks where she instructed youth of Bnei Akiva. Being an instructor was only part of her enormous and wide work that she managed to do in her twenty one years. With her personality and strength she swept after her all her friends in Beit Horon, in High school, and her group in Bnei Akiva, they followed her in her special way and her believe in the love of the country and the Torah.
As an officer in Gush Katif' she was part of the fighting forces that fought the daily war against the terrorists, her soldiers and the settlers loved her and followed her in anything she did.
May this memorial stone be a witness for generations about the Zionist way that matat inherited to the many that followed her in the way of the Maccabim and of the love of the Torah, the country and the people.
Rivka and Naty Rosenfeld.
