On February 28th 1991, Purim eve, Elchanan Atali, 26 years old, walked on HaGuy street in the old city of Jerusalem on his way to meet with friends. The street was dark since Arabs broke the street lights a few days before.
Near the "West wall” tunnel Elchanan was ambushed by two terrorists, even though he was not armed he fought with them but eventually they managed to stub him 13 times and to kill him.
The terrorists claimed the act is in revenge on Sadam Hussein surrender in Iraq (which took place on the same day) and the end of the Gulf war I.
A commemoration plate was put at the place he was killed.
Thanks to Victorya for the picture.
His friends created a memory book for Elchanan.
Commemorized:
