On Monday evening, the Eve of Memorial Day, May 5th, 2003, 28-year-old Gideon Lichterman drove to pick up a friend who had just finished his reserve duty and was waiting at the junction near the Alon road east of Shilo. Gideon;s infant daughter Moriah was in the care with him. As they approached the junction, terrorists opened fire at the vehicle. Gideon and his daughter were wounded and the car went off the road. Gideon left the car to call for help, but collapsed a few meters from the car.

Moriah was found in the car by security forces who came to the area.

Gideon was later found dead where he fell.

His parents have put a Torah in his memory to the neighborhood Synagogue where they live.
