Avraham Slomo Zalman Zoref (ASZ) was an activist for many years, he worked to strengthen the status of the Jewish settlement in Jerusalem. He was the acting force behind getting back the “Hurva” synagogue to Jewish control. The Arabs who didn’t like his activities tried to assassinate him, first with gunshot that missed and then when he walked to the synagogue he was struck from the back in the head with a sword, ASZ was badly wounded and was on his dying bed for 3 months.
ASZ dies at age 66 on Sixteen of September 1851.
ASZ is considered the first fatality from terror and hostile acts, he is buried in Mount of Olives, his name appears first on the monument for terror victims at Herzel mount.
