On March 7, 2003, Palestinian terrorists invaded the Horwitz family home in Kiriyat Arba near Hebron. The terrorists shot the family who was in middle of Shabat dinner, the terrorists chased Rabbi Eli and his wife Dina and shot them while they were standing hugging each other.
One of the terrorists even blew a bomb belt that was on him, the quick response team that came to the house, some of the team members were students of Rabbi Eli , managed to kill the terrorists.
