On Shabbat Eve, 23rd Tevet 5763 (27.12.2002), the students and teachers of the Otniel Yeshiva sat in the dining room, singing Shabbat songs and preparing for dinner. Zvika and his kitchen watchmen – Noam After, Gabriel Hoter and Yehuda Bamberger – were preparing to serve the meal. Two terrorists entered the yeshiva building through the back door of the kitchen and began shooting at the four boys. Zvika and his friends managed to lock the door separating the kitchen from the dining room, thus saving their friends, but all four kitchen watchmen were murdered by the terrorists' fire.
Zvika was 18 years old when he died.
