On Monday, May 10, 2021, Jerusalem Day, Hamas terrorists fired rockets from the Gaza Strip toward Jerusalem while the flag parade was being held in the city. Immediately afterward, the IDF launched Operation "Guardian of the Walls" against Hamas. During the ten days of the operation, thousands of rockets were fired from Gaza into Israel, the south, and the center of the country, and hundreds of Israelis were injured.

On Wednesday, Sivan 5771 (12.05.2021) in the afternoon, rockets were fired from Gaza into Sderot again. The Avigal family entered the protected area of their apartment, but a rocket fragment entered the place through the closed window and hit Ido, his mother, his sister Tahal and his cousin Noam. Shani's mother was seriously injured, Ido was critically injured and a short time later he was pronounced dead at the ''Barzilai'' hospital.
From his mother, Shani: About seven months ago, the Zirin team at Magellan contacted us.
You knew them Dodka, these are the same guys who saw the launch that hit us and have been hugging and hugging us ever since.
They shared their desire to dedicate their liberation project to your memory.
They shared with us their thoughts on establishing the "Dodka Observatory" at the KKL-JNF, in an area frequented by many hikers near the Israel Trail.
Expect it to include your friendship benches and be a place of values.
The idea immediately connected me to your love of nature.

I sought the help of Minister of Culture Hili Troper, who connected us to the KKL-JNF, and from there we began our journey.
A journey of getting to know people with great sensitivity and care.
A journey of brainstorming wrapped in emotion.
This journey ended yesterday with the unveiling of the "Dodka Observatory".
A day after your memorial service.

I learned that nothing is for nothing and this is probably a milestone that was waiting exactly 11 months after your passing.
I know you were moved too, I have no doubt.

Many thanks to the Zirin team for the initiative and thought, thanks to Minister of Culture Hili Troper for connecting with the KKL-JNF, and a huge thank you to the KKL-JNF for taking the project seriously and with great sensitivity.
Come take a walk in the Dodka Observatory, located in the Yarin grove, between Kiryat Gat and Beit Kama (at the entrance to the Pura Nature Reserve) and share your photos from there
