On Sunday, October 27th, 2002, around noon, a suicide terrorist equipped with a bomb belt arrived at the gas station in Ariel, a meeting point of many soldiers before going on duty in the area. Matan Zagron, with others charged the terrorist and struggled with him, suddenly the bomb went off.
Lieutenant Matan Zagron, 23 years old, Major Tamir Masad, 41 years old, and master sergeant Amihud Hasid, 31 years old were killed. Their bodies blocked the explosion and saved many other lives.
