On Sunday July 16th, 2006 around 9am, the very beginning of the second Lebanon war, missiles were fired from southern Lebanon to Haifa. The sirens did not work that time. One of the missiles hit the train garage in downtown Haifa.

Eight workers were killed, 23 were wounded. 

The Haifa center railway station was named after the eight killed, near the ticket selling counters a sign naming the eight was put.
