On April 1st 2002, in the evening a team of policemen set a road block in Jerusalem at the junction of HaNeveem Street and road number 1.
At about 20:45 one of the policemen, Tomer Mordechai, 19 years old noticed a suspicious vehicle stopping at the junction. Tomer approached the vehicle to check it out. As he reached the vehicle a large explosion occurred and Tomer was badly wounded. Tomer was taken to a nearby hospital where he died.
Tomer was awarded a citation for his bravery, by his action a large terror attack was prevented.
In the place of attack a viewpoint was erected in his memory.
