On Sunday, March 14th 2004, in the afternoon Ashdod port was shocked with two explosions. Two suicide terrorists from Gaza managed to get to the port, exploded and murdered eight of the port workers and two innocent bystanders and wounded tens.
Security forces estimated that the terrorists planned to hit a strategic site but exploded earlier than planned, one near the port fence and the second near an office building.
A year after the attack a square in the port was dedicated to the memory of the eight.
In Ashdod a monument was built at the junction of Herzel and Ben Gurion streets. The monument commemorates the ten killed in the attack.
