On January 10th, 1964, Raya Golan, 20 years old, a Soldier in the Golani division, went to visit a friend in Arad. She hitchhiked there and was murdered on her way by a Bedouin who was sentenced to life in prison. Her body was discovered after six days in a water hole, a rope was tied around her neck.
The Ein Hamifratz Kibbutz where she lived build a memorial to raya near the Kibbutz swimming pool and in Yatir junction in the Negev near where she was found dead.
