During the 2014 Israel–Gaza conflict also known as Operation Protective Edge, Dror Hanin, 38 years old decided to collect various sweets and create packages to give out to soldiers, he collected donations and packed the products.
On July 15th, 2014, Dror and another person went to distribute the packages to soldiers at the front lines.
Minutes after leaving Kibbutz Netiv Ha’Asara mortar shells were fired, the two left the car and took cover near a wall, Dror was hit from shrapnel and was wounded, after few minutes he died.
The memorial was placed near the “Erez” checkpoint.
