On Saturday, Simchat Torah, October 7, 2023, Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel.
Thousands of terrorists infiltrated Israel and the settlements around Gaza - kibbutzim and moshavim, as well as the nearby towns of Sderot, Ofakim and Netivot, on nature reserve areas near kibbutzim Reim and Nirim, on IDF bases and on passers-by on the roads in the area. The terrorists murdered hundreds of civilians in their homes, in their cars and while they were partying, they kidnapped hundreds of Israelis to the Gaza Strip.
This morning, war began.
That same day, terrorists infiltrated Kibbutz Nir Oz, murdered about forty kibbutz members and kidnapped dozens to Gaza. Among the murdered were Shiri Bibas' parents, Margit and Yossi Silverman.
Shiri and her two young children, Ariel and Kfir, were kidnapped from their home to the Gaza Strip by terrorists, minutes after the family's father, Yarden, was kidnapped by terrorists from the kibbutz yard.
Shiri and the two children were held together for 50 days, they were murdered by terrorists on the 15th of October.
The father of the family, Yarden, was held separately from them for over a year and three months, and was returned to Israel on 1.2.2025.
Three weeks after Yarden's return, the bodies of Shiri, 32, Ariel, 4, and Kfir, 1, Bibas were repatriated to Israel. On 26.2.2025, they were laid to rest in the cemetery in Tzochar, near Shiri's parents.
