On Tuesday afternoon, February 10, 1970, three Palestinian terrorists attacked a group of El Al passengers at the airport in Munich, Germany, with gunfire and grenades. The attack targeted a bus where passengers were waiting to be transported from the waiting hall to the plane, and eight of the passengers were injured.
Aryeh Katzenstein, 32, was on a business trip with his father, and when a terrorist threw a grenade at the bus, Aryeh, with rare courage, threw himself on his father to protect him. Aryeh was killed, his father and other passengers were injured.
The incident is known because the theatre actress Hanna Maron, who was also on the bus, was injured and her leg was amputated.
The attack took place at the old Munich airport (RIEM) and now 55 years after Aryeh Katzenstein, the Haifa hero, has been commemorated at the Munich airport, where the attack took place.
