In November 1988, 23-year-old Danny Brauner decided to go on a trip around the world, during which he would visit his homeland. He flew from Tel Aviv to London, and after a stay there, on December 21, 1988, he boarded Pan Am flight number 103 bound for New York, on his way to Uruguay.
About an hour after takeoff, on the night between Wednesday and Thursday, the 14th of Tevet 5749 (December 22, 1988), a bomb planted by Muslim terrorists sent from Libya exploded on the plane. The explosion occurred over the town of Lockerbie in Scotland, and the plane crash damaged several houses there. The explosion killed 270 people: all the passengers on the plane, including Danny, who was the only Israeli, and 11 residents of the town.
Danny was 23 years old when he died.
