On the 24th of Iyar 5752 (27.05.1992), at eight in the morning, Rabbi Shimon Biran, 31, walked from his home in Kfar Darom to his workplace at the Torah and Land Institute opposite the gate of the settlement.

As he crossed the road, a terrorist attacked him and stabbed him to death.

Rabbi Shimon was the rabbi of Kfar Darom and was 31 years old when he died.

He was laid to rest on the day of his murder, in the Neve Dekalim cemetery in Gush Katif. After the disengagement from the Gaza Strip, his body was moved to the cemetery on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem.

The monument to his memory that stood in front of the institute where he worked was moved after the disengagement to Nof Ayalon near the Shaalavim Yeshiva. Photos taken by Reuven Talker.
