On February 28th 1999 lieutenant General Erez Gerstein went for a condolences visit in a Lebanese village in south Lebanon. With him went his driver Ahmed Abu Rish and his radio operator Omer Elkabetz and Kol Israel radio reporter Ilan Roea.
A side bomb exploded near their car killing all four.
Ilan Roea was 32 years old.
